Teresa Teng is a rare talented singer in Chinese music and a key figure in the history of Asian pop culture in the second half of the 20th century. During its active 1970s and 1980s, Teresa Teng made indisputable achievements in Taiwan Province, Hongkong and Japanese performing arts markets respectively, and set a number of first-time records among Chinese singers. Especially in China mainland audience market, Teresa Teng’s influence on people at that time had already surpassed the identity of an ordinary singer, and he was once nicknamed "Lao Deng is not as good as Xiao Deng".
May 8th is the 20th anniversary of the death of Teresa Teng, a famous Chinese singer. Her childhood alma mater and the History Museum of Luzhou Primary School in New Taipei City exhibited old photos and records of Teresa Teng. Liao Hanquan, a teacher in Teresa Teng Primary School, recalled Teresa Teng’s early years, while the New Taipei City Government launched the "Luzhou Special of Teresa Teng’s Hometown" in the latest issue of its subordinate publication "Protecting New Taipei City". On May 9th, Teresa Teng Cultural and Educational Foundation held a "Public Concert for the 20th Anniversary of Teresa Teng’s Death" in Taipei Dome. On the other side, the collective memories of Teresa Teng have come and gone. Not only did the media compete for articles, but the singer Faye Wong also announced that at 5: 08 pm on May 8, Teresa Teng’s unfinished "Qingpingdiao" would be released globally at the same time, and two days later, the duet would be held from a distance.
In the 20 years since Teresa Teng left on May 8, 1995, people’s memory of this Asian singer has never been dull. There are countless commemorative activities for her, which shows that Teresa Teng plays an important role in the Chinese cultural circle.
1. In May 2015, Teresa Teng was resurrected and sang with Yu-Ching Fei and Faye Wong.
Digital Domain makes use of the 3D technology of Hollywood movies, enabling the audience to witness Teresa Teng’s projection on the stage and sing against singer Yu-Ching Fei on May 9th, which will be the most classic and anticipated concert in Taiwan Province. Faye Wong will also launch the unfinished song "Qingpingdiao" on May 8th, so as to achieve duet with Teresa Teng.
Second, in November, 2013, the countdown to the Golden Horse Award, reviewing the beautiful image of Teresa Teng.
During the countdown, the Executive Committee of the Golden Horse Awards played the video materials of Teresa Teng singing in the 17th Golden Horse Awards. 5. In May, 2013, Taipei Dome "Teresa Teng Memorial Concert"
Fish Leong kicked off with "Cloudy Clouds", Cao Ge sang "Coffee and Wine", and Jay Chou played and sang "The Story of a Small Town" and "What Do You Say", which coincided with Mother’s Day. Many older Taiwan Province people watched the performance accompanied by their children.
6. In January, 2013, the special exhibition "Chasing Dreams and Forever Teresa Teng" was held.
The exhibition is based on "Three Dreams Teresa Teng Purchased All His Life" and is divided into six exhibition areas, with the background music of Native People, Colorful Yunfei, Walking the Road of Life, I only care about you, I wish people a long time, and When will you come again?
7. In September 2011, the musical "Falling in Love with Teresa Teng" was staged.
On the 16th anniversary of Teresa Teng’s death, the Teresa Teng Cultural and Educational Foundation felt that although Teresa Teng had a legendary life, there was no musical with her as its theme, so it joined Broadway and Beijing Oriental Songlei Group to launch the musical "Love Teresa Teng", which was composed of 33 Teresa Teng songs.
8. In July, 2010, Teresa Teng’s relics were exhibited at Huabo Hall of Fame in Taipei.
In cooperation with Teresa Teng Cultural and Educational Foundation, Taibei Huabo Hall of Fame exclusively exhibited nine unexposed precious clothes, films, diaries, letters and manuscripts of Teresa Teng.
9. In December 2009, Teresa Teng sang in the Taiwan Province Pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo in Wang Leehom.
Singer Wang Leehom served as the goodwill ambassador of the Taiwan Province Pavilion of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, and released his own theme song "Laugh at the sight of you" which was specially created and sung with Teresa Teng across time and space.
X. In August 1995, Junyuan Teresa Teng Memorial Park was completed.
During the centenary festival in Teresa Teng, Deng’s family inaugurated the Yunyuan Teresa Teng Memorial Park and unveiled the bronze statue of Teresa Teng. The bronze statue of Teresa Teng is shaped like a mermaid. The design of the whole memorial park emphasizes Teresa Teng’s musical achievements, and a huge piano keyboard is built on Park Avenue.
